Falconer 2Vi vs Falconer Aero 2Vi: What’s the Difference?

SWEET PROTECTION COMPARISON
MORE AIRFLOW OR
SWITCHABLE AERO?

The Falconer 2Vi® Mips and Falconer Aero 2Vi® Mips share the same core performance platform, but they are built around two different riding priorities.

Choosing between the Sweet Protection Falconer 2Vi® Mips and Falconer Aero 2Vi® Mips looks simple at first. One has covers and one does not.

Look closer, though, and there are a few differences that can genuinely affect which helmet makes more sense for your riding. The regular Falconer is lighter and more ventilation-focused. The Falconer Aero adds removable magnetic Aerocovers™ and a Fidlock magnetic buckle, giving riders the option to switch between a more aerodynamic setup and open ventilation.

Both still share Sweet Protection's 2Vi® platform, Mips Air, STACC ventilation, 360 Occigrip fit system and eyewear integration. The choice comes down to what you value more: maximum airflow and lower weight, or additional aero versatility.

PRIORITIZING AIRFLOW

The regular Falconer 2Vi is the lighter and more ventilation-focused version of the two. Sweet Protection gives it two additional vents and lists the M/L size at 285 grams.

That 15-gram difference is small on paper, but the bigger distinction is the more open shell. There are no removable Aerocovers blocking the upper vents, making the standard Falconer the simpler choice for riders who consistently prioritize airflow.

For long climbs, warm weather and rides where ventilation matters more than having an adjustable aero setup, the Falconer 2Vi makes a lot of sense.

CHOOSE FALCONER 2Vi IF:
  • You regularly ride in hot or humid conditions.
  • Long climbs are a major part of your riding.
  • You want the lighter 285 g setup.
  • Maximum airflow matters more than removable aero covers.
  • You prefer the simpler Falconer configuration.

AERO WHEN YOU WANT IT.

The Falconer Aero 2Vi takes the same core platform and adds a feature that completely changes how you can configure the helmet: detachable magnetic Aerocovers™.

Snap the covers into place when you want a smoother, more aerodynamic profile or extra protection from the elements. Remove them for hot days and big climbs when you want more airflow through the helmet's STACC ventilation system.

The Aero version weighs 300 grams in M/L and also adds Sweet Protection's magnetic Fidlock buckle, allowing the chin strap to lock into place quickly with one hand.

That makes the Aero the more adaptable choice for riders who want one helmet that can shift between an aero-focused race setup and a more open configuration depending on the ride.

CHOOSE FALCONER AERO 2Vi IF:
  • You want removable Aerocovers for a more aerodynamic setup.
  • You want the option to open the vents for climbs and hot days.
  • A magnetic Fidlock buckle is important to you.
  • You prioritize speed-focused road riding or racing.
  • You want the more configurable version of the Falconer.
IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY NOTE
AEROCOVERS ONLY FIT THE AERO 2Vi.

Falconer Aero 2Vi Aerocovers™ attach using magnets built specifically into the Aero helmet. They are not compatible with the regular Falconer 2Vi, so the standard model cannot be converted into an Aero later by simply buying the covers separately.

WHAT THEY SHARE

SAME FALCONER FOUNDATION

The important thing to remember is that choosing the regular Falconer does not mean stepping down to an entirely different helmet platform. Most of the core technology is shared between the two.

2Vi® + MIPS AIR

Both use Sweet Protection's 2Vi® helmet platform with Mips Air for rotational impact management.

360 OCCIGRIP

Both use the integrated fit system with adjustable height and width for fine-tuning the helmet around your head.

STACC VENTILATION

Both use Sweet Protection's airflow channels to move air around critical areas of the head while riding.

EYEWEAR GRIPPERS

Both helmets include dedicated eyewear storage and are designed to integrate with Sweet Protection performance sunglasses.

REPLACEABLE FRONT PAD

Both include a replaceable moisture-absorbing front pad to help manage sweat during longer rides.

5-STAR RATING

Both models have received a five-star rating from the Virginia Tech helmet testing program.

HOT WEATHER RIDING
WHICH MAKES MORE SENSE IN THE HEAT?

For riders in the Philippines and other hot, humid climates, the standard Falconer has a clear advantage if maximum ventilation is the priority. It is lighter and uses two additional vents.

The Aero is still highly ventilated with its covers removed, but its main advantage is flexibility. You can run the covers for faster, flatter efforts, then remove them when conditions or terrain call for more airflow.

FIT & EVERYDAY USE

FIT IS MORE SIMILAR THAN DIFFERENT

Both helmets use Sweet Protection's 360 Occigrip system, so the fundamental fit experience is very similar. The system can be adjusted for both height and width, helping the helmet sit securely without relying only on shell size.

Both are also designed around Sweet Protection eyewear, with integrated grippers that give you a secure place to store your sunglasses when they are off your face.

THE VERDICT

WHICH FALCONER SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

GO FALCONER
AIRFLOW FIRST

Choose the Falconer 2Vi if you want the lighter and more ventilated setup, especially for hot conditions, climbing and long road rides.

GO FALCONER AERO
FLEXIBILITY + SPEED

Choose the Falconer Aero 2Vi if you want removable Aerocovers, a Fidlock buckle and the flexibility to switch between aero and open configurations.

Neither is simply the better helmet. The regular Falconer prioritizes lower weight and airflow, while the Falconer Aero gives you more configuration options and additional aero features.
